Intel's Quad Core

Intel logoIntel just said they are producing quad core processors and they will be seen in products as early as January of 2007. This new quad core chip has been nicknamed "Clovertown." What's crazy about this production is that the Clovertown chip is going to be used in some dual processor servers. That means 8 processing cores between 2 chips... very very fast.

Intel CEO said, "
By the end of the decade, chips with tens of cores will be possible, while in 10 years, it's theoretically possible that chips with hundreds of cores will come out." Interesting...

Joe(12kb)Tall My thoughts for the future...
Right now the big thing for processor companies is core expansion, but I think in the next few years we will start to see less core expansion in the news and more dual memory issues. This is where you have 2 internal drives in one case; one drive is a regular hard drive that computers are currently using. The other drive is a solid state flash drive that will run the actual OS and core applications and drivers. The data and additional applications will be stored on the regular hard drive. Reason being that flash drives have limited space but they run 25 times faster than traditional hard drives and they use a fifth less energy.
